Meet the team

Everyone at the Casa Josefina has a crucial role. We work to coordinate all of the different activities and responsibilities to ensure that we are all striving together toward our goal to be a blessing to these children.

Director

Kristen Henson

My name is Kristen Henson and I am from Augusta, GA. I attended the Medical Collage of Georgia where I received a Bachelors of Science in nursing in 2004. During that time, I met my husband Nathan, and we were married in 2005. In 2006 we decided together to begin pursuing a life in service overseas. I completed my Masters in nursing at University of Alabama at Birmingham as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Medicine. Nathan is an Ophthmologist and works as the director at 'La Fuente', our missionary clinic which also provides medical care for the children at Casa Josefina. We moved to Costa Rica for language school in 2010 and then to Cusco in early 2011. I worked as a nurse practitioner in our clinic until 2015. Nathan and I have 3 children.- Lucas (8), Noah (7), and Silas (4). God began to impact our hearts with orphan care when our first son Lucas was placed at the Casa Josefina for the first nine months of his life. We adopted him shortly thereafter. This began our 8 year journey of loving and caring for the little ones in our city.

Home Coordinator & House Mom

Cecilia Balareso

My name is Cecilia. I was born in Northern Ecuador. I have a beautiful daughter and three precious granddaughters. At 4 years of age I was kidnapped and separated from my family. Until I was 15 years old I lived with different families in different areas of Ecuador, escaping many times because of the abuse that I suffered. I never received words or actions of love and because of that, I lived life with an emptiness that longed to be filled with affection and love. My heart was full of resentment and bitterness toward the people who had separated me from my family. When I was 23 I became pregnant with my first and only daughter, Lucia. After she was born, a very special person in my life shared the love and grace of Christ with me, but my heart was still very hard. Two years later, I fell into a serious depression. I only wanted to die. But the same person who shared Christ’s love with me two years earlier told me that only God could give me the peace that I needed. That day, Christ made me a new creation, and all of the old things of my life washed away and were made new. I knew that God existed, but I had never heard of the great love that he had for me. I actually felt his great love and grace for me for the first time that day. I moved to Cusco, Peru to be a part of the Josephine House ministry in 2013. My family remains in Quito, Ecuador. Looking back on all that has happened in my life, I realize that I was never alone. God was always with me and had a perfect plan for me. He was in control of every situation that I went experienced. The amazing thing is that He was preparing my heart to be able to love and understand each and every one of “the children of my heart” that he would give me in the Casa Josefina.

Director of Visitor Relations

Cindy Dubose

My name is Cindy DuBose and my husband Josh and I are from Jonesboro, Georgia. My husband is a dentist at the clinic La Fuente and we have 3 amazing kiddos: Emma, Bowden and Blakely. We moved to Peru in October of 2016 and I set foot in Casa Josefina for the first time in November of 2017. In that moment I knew I needed to be a part of this ministry. It has been such a blessing to watch the workers give such amazing care to these sweet babies day in and day out. I have loved being able to watch Cecilia give all that she has to love these little children around the clock as she lives with them in the home. I appreciate that our director Kristen is always thinking for these babies, ready to give them a voice when they don’t have one. The Casa Josefina is such a precious place. It is full of love and hope. I am beyond grateful that I have the opportunity to share my joy with others as the director of visitor relations at the Casa Josefina. It is also a gift that I get to spend time just playing with and watching these little children grow as I watch God’s plan for them unfold. Kristen likes to say that their arrival at Casa Josefina, and the situation leading up to it, is not the end of their story, it is only the beginning. It is such an honor to be a part of what God is doing in the Casa Josefina.
