Our Programs
Our work comes to life through programs that help each child grow, heal, and discover their unique strengths.
Residential care program
Our Residential Care Program serves children from birth to five years old who have been abandoned or placed in situations of serious vulnerability due to dangerous circumstances within their biological families. These children are entrusted to us through the local child welfare system when it has been determined that they can no longer remain safely at home.
At any given time, Casa Josefina provides a safe, nurturing home for approximately 20 children. Our dedicated caregiving team rotates every 24 hours, offering consistent, loving care tailored to each child's needs—physically, emotionally, and developmentally.
We work closely with Cusco’s judicial and social service systems to ensure that every child's legal case progresses with care and urgency. Each child has an individualized care plan designed to:
-
Strengthen services for potential reunification with biological family
-
Support the investigation and identification of extended family members
-
Prepare for adoption when reunification is not possible
Our goal is always the same: to see every child placed in a loving, permanent family where they can grow, heal, and thrive.
Foster Care Pilot Program
Since 2022, Casa Josefina has been working alongside various local organizations—including Perú por los Niños—to make family-based foster care a reality in Peru. With the vision of seeing more children placed in loving, family-based environments rather than long-term residential care, we are committed to pioneering this important shift in Cusco.
This program works in close partnership with Peru's child welfare system to identify and support local families who are willing to open their homes to children in need of temporary care. Our team is devoted to walking closely with each foster family—whether through preparation, emotional and spiritual support, or ongoing practical assistance. We are also working hand in hand with local churches and institutions to secure the necessary approval from government authorities to fully launch this program in Cusco.
As part of this commitment, Casa Josefina’s multidisciplinary team is currently undergoing the Camino – CasaViva training program, based in Costa Rica, which equips us to better identify and support potential foster families. We believe this is a vital and hopeful step forward in the care of children outside of their own biological family units.
